GATE Examination 2013-14
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a common
written examination conducted for the admission in various post graduate

Examination Name:
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
Eligibility:
A. Interested applicants who possess Bachelor’s degree
in Engineering or Technology or Architecture may also apply.
B. Desired students who are appearing in final
year of above mentioned course may also apply.
C. Candidates who possess Master's degree in
any branch like Science or Mathematics or Statistics or Computer Applications
or any equivalent degree/ course.
D. Desired entrants who are in final year of
Five-year Integrated Master’s degree programme may also apply for the
course.
E. It must be noted here that candidates who
hold diploma in engineering area not eligible for the examination.
Application Fees for GATE Examination:
Eligible aspirants are required to fill the
fees along with application form. Details of the application fees are given
below:
General category candidates are required to
pay Rs 1200 along with the examination form.
Candidates who belong to SC/ST/PD category
are required to pay Rs 600 along with the examination form.
Examination fees for the women candidates are
completely exempted.
Applying Procedure:
Interested applicants can download the
application form from the official website of GATE. Aspirants who choose to
make payment through offline mode are required to take print out copy of Challan
generated from the website and submit the same to the local branch of SBI or
Canara Bank.
Candidates can make payment through online
net baking also.
Examination Pattern:
1. GATE written examination is in objective type
patterns. It contains questions of total 100 marks. There will be 65 questions
in the examination paper.
2. The written examination will be Online for
candidates of Chemical Engineering & Civil Engineering branches.
3. Whereas the written examination will be Offline
for candidates of Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication,
Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Science & IT and Mechanical
Engineering branches.
4. Paper of general knowledge will be same for
all the branches.
Negative Marking:
There will be negative marking. For one wrong
answer 1/3 marks will be deducted from questions carrying one marks whereas 2/3
marks will be deducted from question carrying two marks.
